jadinerhine: (Gamlin drink)
[personal profile] jadinerhine
I've been enjoying my time over on Blorbo.Social, and decided that, now that I have some time to actually finally participate in it, to participate in the [community profile] snowflake_challenge for this year. I've often heard about it, never participated in it. So hooray!

Unfortunately, because I am incapable of writing short answers, a lot of my own have been massive novels lol. I actually wondered if it was a better idea to write them up here and link it back on my Fedi account...but I also wanted to "interact" with the community over there xD Oops. Anyway, I will link to the main post, and then basically copy/paste my answers along with the link to the post in question. We'll see if I do the opposite for Day 6 and beyond (or not, I'm too fickle with fandom.)

NAAN's thread

----------------

Challenge #1: – Update fandom information ( my post )

I'm skipping the first challenge because lol I don't think I can improve my intro to be any better than it is at the moment! Here it is, if you're interested:

Hello, folks!

My name's NAAN and I usually work as a comicker. But sometimes I take time to archive things I find interesting, work on my fansite or do, like, one fanbook!

I'm into , and !

I don't tend to participate *much* in fandom--I tended to always do fandom alone. But in recent years, I have decided to dip my toes into some. They include and !

Challenge #2: – Set some goals ( my post )

-Actually finally upload/finish chapter 4 of my original comic (*monkey's paw curls somewhere again for the 5th year in a row*)
-Finally finish a color short story from 2017
-Rehaul fictional band website and make new minicomic for it
-Finish crossover art
-Finish short fanfic attempt
-Release Lia Nelson fanbook
-Lia fancomic w a friend
-Tangent Comics skeleton fansite
-Comprehensive art section for Enemy Ace site

Now see none of these happen LOL

Challenge #3: – Create a Wishlist ( my post )

Ehhhhh I actually would just love more comments on my comics and art more than anything. Fanart or even theories are super welcome, but I just want actual feedback or gushing. So, you know, the usual creator need XD More boosts too, if on socmed.

Volunteers for the Aradia Collective to help me too would be great, especially with posting online. I'm the one who manages everything. It's why some accounts are just dead, because I forget.

Buuuut since this is a fandom list--

-A bigger DC Comics fandom where the obscure is more than a passing glance. Obviously I want more fans of Hans, maybe even Sgt Rock or the Blackhawks, and yeah, more Tangent fans! But I also want them to be active or semi-active. Reason why most fans post a bit and then leave is because there's not a "big" (or even decent-sized) active group. e.g. there was a new Hans fan who posted two fanfics and then moved on to the next fandom ;-;

My needs aren't big, even a Discord server with all us freaks would suffice lol. Granted, that would be walled in and not "open", but look, when you're a fan of a certain something, you get the breadcrumbs lol

-More fansites! More webrings! I found recently a webring for FANCOMICS from back in the day. Niche stuff like this that can be maintained for a while is fun: web.archive.org/web/2009072404

-More crossover art! And more accepting of crossovers, even the "silly ones!

Okay this is getting too long lol, one day I will be able to write short and sweet and people will understand what I mean XD

So lastly, I suppose I would like to see fandom (and original works, of course) adopt a similar outlook as JP fandom, to the point where we can have (affordable) printing houses out the wazoo and Comitia or Comiket-esque events. And to not be afraid to use FANBOOK as a term. Certainly will lower the zine semantic discourse >_>;;

Challenge #4: – Icebreaker Challenge ( my post )

Ehhh, not sure how this is different from the first one. I guess I'll just say I'm a comicker who wishes she had clones, so she could have had 10 comics out and finished by now LMAO. I also have a linguistics background, with minor interests in random history, religion and dadaism.

I got into archiving a year ago, more so when trying to gather ethereal webcomics history for the magical girl genre!

Challenge #5: – Scavenger Hunt ( my post )

1. Something your favorite character would like:

-Oh boy. Uhhhh. Which to pick of my faves lol.

I'll go with Hans, since that's the primary on this account for now: I think he would like Youtube a lot? Sounds cringe mayhaps, but Hans is canonically also fascinated by new things and wants to learn more about them, regardless of whether it came from the "enemy side" or not. To him, it's only extra knowledge that can become part of a more nuanced approach. It's typical for most soldiers to have that outlook tbf, but I think he would dig learning about Youtube and going "I can watch all the aviation vids?! :0"

I have his videos on queue to watch eventually, but this channel is a "base" example. (Hans would probably be constantly raising eyebrows by the anime art though xD)

The shitposter in me thinks he'd find videos like this and be absolutely entranced and confused.

2. Something that makes you laugh

-One of my favorite memes to ever edit to this day! When I decided to procrastinate on everything in life and rp on Tumblr lol. My friend Raxceni and I would talk about her crossover ship and analogies to Swan Princess, and I tell you, the inspiration, she a-hit me! We were group watching Darling in the Franxx at the time, so I also added a quick reference to it.

Check the meme here.

3. A fandom place you would like to visit

- Not sure if this means fandom community or real life place that served as inspiration, but Okayama is always on the bucket list, as that's the place Tenchi Muyo is set in. I also have a Japanese friend who literally turns out to live there too lmao, serendipity. So it'd be nice to visit her too one day <3

4. A fandom creator (pro or not) you'd like to meet

-Hmmm, I don't like the "pro or not" qualifier. I guess because if you're a "pro" fandom creator, you're not really a hobbyist anymore, you're just a glorfied creator trying to make a career out of a hobby. But I digress with the semantics xD

Heck, if I know. I guess my friends, it would be nice to meet them IRL :D

5. Something you find comforting

-UHHHHHHHHH I don't know lmao. Probably drawing isolated after dealing with [fbi agent reading this stops her before she delves into rants]

6. Something from a favorite TV series or movie from your childhood

-The insert song "The Rock" from one of my favorite episodes from "So Weird." It was love at first viewing and first listen.

"The Rock forged my spirit, The Rock was my anchor
The Rock held me fast, Through the storms of my youth
Now you'll never die, 'Cause you live on inside me
An oileán seo, Mo h-Éireann féin, li li li..."

If you would like to watch the full series, go here. For the episode in question, look for the one titled "Banshee"!

7. A piece of clothing you love

-A varsity jacket I bought in Finland while in my residency. I always loved varsity jackets but never was able to buy one. I found one that had red and black colors, with a red W, which I took to be a fortuitous meeting, because the branding for one of my projects is a red W! Plus, it cost about 11-15 euros, if I remember? Which is the cheapest I've ever seen one of those jackets be priced, so I just took the plunge ^_^;

8. A book or song with a color in the title

- Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit, a cover of the The Who song. Buddies and I were talking about Limp Bizkit and the nu metal era, and I was recommended this as someone who couldn't grok with Limp Bizkit. Very surprised by the cover, tbh!

9. Something only someone in your fandom would understand

-One of the things I must add onto the eventual Ah My Goddess fansite is a (for now) AMG Discord specific event where a member tried to edit out the harem genre out of the Wikipedia page, and suddenly we found ourselves thrust in a journey of "uh, did you guys fail your library classes or something?"

Lots of memes were had to deal with the absurdity that was editors refusing to acknowledge primary sources NOT listing the series under "harem" (which is also just a wrong qualifier, overall). Here's one of my faves, made by a member called Geese.

An edit of the Drake meme where he waves dismissively at one thing and then in the next picture approves of the other. In this case, both of his heads are substituted for the Wikipedia logomark. The first half has Wikipedia not liking the primary source that is creator Kosuke Fujishima and his American distributor, Dark Horse Comics. The second half has Wikipedia approving the secondary sources that are anime journalists in North America.

Fun fact: the Japanese wikipedia page only states AMG as "love comedy" and "fantasy." Who knew, right?!

Additional context: the anime journalists mention isn't some sort of typical "ugh journos bad" seen in parts of online anime fandom--it's because many of them were actually wrong, either listing AMG as a shounen for example (it is a seinen) or bloggers saying it's harem without any actual sources other than "trust me."
